Steve Bruce agrees to contract extension with Hull City

Hull City has announced via Twitter that manager Steve Bruce has agreed to a contract extension with the club and will sign it within the next 24 hours.

Bruce has brought Hull City unmitigated success the last few years by club standards, and even though they remain entrenched in a relegation battle this season, his tenure has still been considered a positive given the club’s budget constraints.

The 54-year-old signed on in 2012 and led the Tigers to promotion to the Premier League in his first season with the club. He was an extra-time goal away from winning the FA Cup last season. Their finals appearance gave the club its first-ever appearance in a European competition. With his initial three-year contract set to expire this summer, his name had been tossed around for several jobs that many would consider a step up. However, the new extension would keep him secured at the club for the forseeable future.

It’s not immediately known how long the extension is for.

Hull City is currently five points above the relegation zone in 15th place, but the club is on the up recently, with seven points in its last four games. They will travel to relegation candidates Leicester City this weekend.
