U.S. defender Omar Gonzalez is the next “MLS 36" subject

About the time Omar Gonzalez is doing his best to contain all of Germany’s attacking bit at RFK Stadium on Sunday, you can learn a little bit more about the LA Galaxy and U.S. international center back.

(We assume Gonzalez will start again Sunday; he’s still the future at center back for the United States … never mind that brain fart that cost a goal Wednesday against Belgium. Come to think of it, if everyone who committed a costly error against the regal Belgians got yanked from the lineup, U.S. manager Jurgen Klinsmann might have to put himself on the field just fill out an 11-man bunch.)

At any rate, Gonzalez is the latest subject of NBC Sports Network’s “MLS 36.” The series debuted in August 2012 as part of NBC’s new partnership with Major League Soccer. It took fans into the lives of guys like Chris Wondolowski, Dwayne De Rosario and Kyle Beckerman. Each time, NBC cameras spent 36 hours with the player.

It’s a good series, well worth a look – especially into a guy who may soon test himself overseas, and one so critical to the national team future.

The program makes its 2013 debut Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN (just ahead of the LA Galaxy match at New England, also to be seen on the network). Here’s a preview from the NBC Sports Network:
