WATCH: Erik Hurtado makes his first MLS goal one to remember

Erik Hurtado had to wait 21 games for this, but getting the start today in place of the injured Darren Mattocks, the 2013 first round draft pick made his first Major League Soccer goal a memorable one. This score gave Vancouver an early lead in Columbus, but it will be remembered as an emphatic end to the second-year pro’s early drought.

From a restart out of the back, the speedy Hurtado briefly morphed into a target striker, keeping Columbus left back Waylon Francis in his pocket as he played the ball back into the middle of the field. One touch later, the 23-year-old from Santa Clara had the left side of goal to himself, bending the back of Steve Clark’s net to break onto the scoresheet.

It took 677 minutes, but given his talent, Hurtado’s unlikely to wait that long for number two. After scoring 33 times in college, the Whitecaps attacker is up to one in the pros.
