Following their disappointing loss to Aston Villa at home on Opening Day, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said he’s not the one - or at least not the only one - to blame for the Gunners’ failure to purchase any players so far.
“I’m there to buy, if we find them we’ll do it. I’m not the only one working on that. It’s not my money, it’s the money of the club” Wenger told Sky following the defeat.
With the transfer window inching towards its September 2 deadline day, Arsenal haven’t spent a single pound/euro/dollar on any additions.
Some Arsenal fans held scathing signs up as the clock wound down on the Gunners’ defeat at the Emirates, and Wenger was apparently quite angry at the end.
The Frenchman again assured fans in his press conference that the club are working on bringing in new players, saying, “We were on the market before the game and it is the same after the game.”

Wenger has been hearing the fans’ numerous concerns, even forcing Arsenal’s official website to post an entire story with Wenger assuring fans they’re working on new players. He told the site that the money is there, but they want to find players that fit.
“Why should I resist (spending)? I just defend the idea that you spend the money you have and not the money you don’t have” Wenger told Arsenal.com. “For years I did that. Today we have more so we can spend more. It’s as simple as that. Of course I am excited by that prospect but what I want to convince you of is that we are ready to spend the money if we feel that the players makes us a better team tomorrow morning.”
