Packers rookie S Aaron Rouse “didn’t jump out” at Packers minicamp this week.
The Green Bay Post-Gazette said Rouse is still expected to compete with Marquand Manuel to start, just that the safety group looked tightly bunched. Rouse is a IDP sleeper if he can win the job.

Packers S Marviel Underwood returned to team drills Monday for the first time since tearing his MCL and ACL in the team’s preseason opener last year.
Underwood is in the mix to start at strong safety along with Atari Bigby, Aaron Rouse, and Marquand Manuel, but probably the least likely to win the job.
  • FA Defensive Back
Aaron Rouse was listed as a free safety on the Packers’ first depth chart of training camp.
Apparently the rookie isn’t directly pushing Marquand Manuel on the strong side. Rouse is behind Nick Collins. Atari Bigby is second string to Manuel.

Packers strong safety Marquand Manuel says the reason his play was poor last season is because he was playing injured.
“Even though I was smart enough and physical enough to play the game, I still wasn’t Marquand,” Manuel said. The incumbent starter could lose his job to third-round pick Aaron Rouse or rehabbing Marviel Underwood (torn ACL).

Marquand Manuel is not expected to be the Packers’ starting strong safety any longer.
That job will likely fall to Atari Bigby, who could be backed up by rookie Aaron Rouse or Tyrone Culver if Manuel is among the Packers’ final cuts.

Packers signed third-round S Aaron Rouse to a four-year contract.
Rouse is an impressive and imposing athlete but has his shortcomings in coverage and wasn’t a big playmaker as a senior at Virginia Tech. He’s battling Atari Bigby and Marquand Manuel for playing time at strong safety.
  • FA Defensive Back #26
Atari Bigby is seeing reps as the Packers’ No. 1 strong safety at camp.
Bigby is ahead of Aaron Rouse and Marviel Underwood on the depth chart, and has an outside shot to overtake Marquand Manuel for the starting spot.
  • FA Defensive Back #36
Packers FS Nick Collins was helped off the field with a knee injury Sunday.
The injury appeared to be serious. Rookie Aaron Rouse is Collins’ backup.
