Jaguars fourth-round WR Ace Sanders (ab, hip) may not participate in offseason activities until next month.
At 5'7/173, Sanders already had durability questions before he even began his NFL career. Missing the first month of your rookie year won’t help. Sanders is aiming to carve out a role in the return game and as depth in the slot.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Rookie Ace Sanders worked as the first-team slot receiver during the Jags’ final minicamp practice.
We wouldn’t expect Sanders to run with the job once training camp comes around. A Dexter McCluster type without long speed, the 5'7/173 fourth-rounder is more of a return man. Jordan Shipley is a better bet for the slot job. Neither one will be on the fantasy radar in Jacksonville’s weak passing “attack.”
  • FA Wide Receiver
Rookie WR Ace Sanders (ab, hip) has resumed practicing at Jaguars OTAs.
The Florida Times Union reported on May 15 that Sanders might miss the rest of the month, but he was back working on Monday. Sanders will compete for return duties as a rookie, and push Jordan Shipley for snaps at slot receiver.
  • FA Wide Receiver
SI’s Peter King is “hearing” the Jaguars have some “very interesting offensive wrinkles” planned for rookies Ace Sanders and Denard Robinson, and believes Sanders could be a “lesser Tavon Austin.”
Sanders was a playmaker at South Carolina, but is even more pint-sized than Austin at 5-foot-7, 173 pounds, and lacks Austin’s home-run speed. Sanders clocked a 4.58 40-yard dash at the Combine, which isn’t in the same universe as Austin’s 4.34. Sanders will fight for snaps in the slot, but is unlikely to affect games outside of special teams as a rookie.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Jaguars selected South Carolina WR Ace Sanders with the No. 101 overall pick.
Sanders (5-foot-7, 173) caught 45 passes for 531 yards (11.8 YPR) and nine touchdowns as a junior before surprisingly entering the draft. He also scored three career punt return TDs. With great hands but pedestrian 4.58 speed, Sanders is another Dexter McCluster type lacking physicality, size, and ideal long speed. His early-career impact figures to come on special teams. In Jacksonville, Sanders could compete for slot duties.
  • FA Quarterback
Updating a previous item, Jaguars undrafted rookie QB Matt Scott suffered a high-ankle sprain in Friday’s minicamp practice.
Scott sprained the ankle on a play where he threw an interception to second-round SS Johnathan Cyprien. Jaguars OTAs start on May 13, and high-ankle sprains typically take 2-4 weeks to recover from. Scott can’t afford to miss four weeks. Luckily for him, fellow undrafted rookie QB Jordan Rodgers is battling a groin injury. Fourth-round WR Ace Sanders is also dealing with a groin issue.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Rookie WR Ace Sanders hauled in three passes for 14 yards in the Jaguars’ Week 1 loss to the Chiefs.
Sanders saw nine targets on the afternoon. He had a 33-yard reception negated by an offensive pass interference call against Cecil Shorts. Sanders worked the slot, and it should be his home for much of the season. He’s not on the fantasy radar in the Jaguars’ anemic “attack.”
  • FA Wide Receiver
Ace Sanders caught five passes for 64 yards in Jacksonville’s Week 2 loss to the Raiders.
Sanders’ yards, catches and targets (seven) were second only to Cecil Shorts’ 8/93/14, though like Shorts, most of Sanders’ production came deep into garbage time. The Jaguars’ slot receiver, Sanders has drawn 16 targets through two games, but has vanishingly little re-draft value in Jacksonville’s abysmal offense.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Jaguars WR Mike Brown (back) is not expected to play Week 3.
Brown has been sidelined since catching one pass for 14 yards in Week 1. Ace Sanders (ribs) should be fine to serve as the Jags No. 2 receiver against the Seahawks.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Ace Sanders caught two passes for 25 yards in Sunday’s Week 3 loss to the Seahawks.
Sanders saw just three targets and appeared to play behind Stephen Burton (five catches on nine targets) in two-wide sets. Sanders, a slot receiver on one of the league’s worst passing offenses, has no re-draft appeal.
