Gurode sprained his medial collateral ligament, and could be out for a while.

Gurode has five Pro Bowls on his resume, but turned 34 in March and was waived by the line-deficient Bears last December. He doesn’t have much left.

Gurode, 34, was signed off the street last month, and this is shaping up to be one of the worst offensive lines in the history of the sport. From left to right, the Raiders’ line looks like this: LT Alex Barron, LG Lucas Nix, C Stefen Wisniewski, RG Gurode, RT Khalif Barnes. Expect the Raiders to be on the look-out for linemen when other teams start making final cuts.

It’s bad news, as Gurode was filling in for starting C Stefen Wisniewski. RG Mike Brisiel has shifted to center.

The scrapheap team of the NFL, Oakland continues to build its “roster” with players written off by every other club. Gurode is 34 and hasn’t appeared in a game since the 2011 season. Ideally, he won’t play a down in 2013.

Unlike most centers, Gurode has the size at 6'4/315 to kick over to guard. Grubbs is one of the league’s top guards and isn’t easily replaced, but we’re not downgrading Ray Rice’s matchup against a Rams defense that is dead last against the run and allowing 5.07 yards per carry.

Head coach Bill Parcells will not say whether Gurode will start Sunday.

Despite reports to the contrary, the Cowboys apparently aren’t interested in a reunion with their former nine-year starter after he had a down campaign in Baltimore last season. The 33-year-old five-time Pro Bowler hasn’t made a single known visit since the beginning of free agency.

If signed, Gurode would strictly be an insurance policy behind Phil Costa (lower back) and Bill Nagy (high-ankle sprain). The five-time Pro Bowler hasn’t received any other known interest in free agency.

Gurode takes the roster spot of DT Amobi Okoye, who was waived in a corresponding move. A 127-game starter with the Cowboys and Ravens, Gurode will add much-needed depth on the interior with RG Lance Louis (torn ACL) out and G/C Chris Spencer battling a knee injury of his own.
