Burrows

All players were non-roster invitees to spring training and long shots to make the roster. They will now take the time to decide their next step.

Burrows had a 2.94 ERA and a 49/17 K/BB over 49 innings in the Pirates’ system last year, though most of his success came below Triple-A. The 29-year-old hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2021, when he amassed a 13.91 ERA in 11 innings for the Tigers and Twins.

Burrows hasn’t pitched in the majors since the 2021 season when he made six appearances between the Tigers and Twins. He spent all of last year at Triple-A Oklahoma City in the Dodgers’ system, finishing with an inflated 5.42 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 76/36 K/BB ratio across 76 1/3 innings (37 appearances, 11 starts). The 27-year-old former first-round pick is merely organizational depth at this point.

Burrows was removed from the Dodgers’ 40-man roster shortly after Los Angeles was eliminated from the playoffs by San Diego and has refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 26-year-old former top prospect spent the entire 2022 campaign at Triple-A Oklahoma City where he compiled an underwhelming 7.18 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 95/60 K/BB ratio across 100 1/3 innings (31 appearances, 16 starts).

The roster move prevents Burrows from becoming a minor league free agent and allows the Dodgers to keep him in the organization as extra relief depth entering their postseason run. The 26-year-old former top prospect spent the entire 2022 campaign at Triple-A Oklahoma City where he compiled a lackluster 7.18 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 95/60 K/BB ratio across 100 1/3 innings (31 appearances, 16 starts).

No surprises here. Grove was added to the 40-man roster over the offseason but is coming off a rough Double-A season. Pepiot is one of the team’s top prospects and could debut at some point in 2022.

The 25-year-old hurler split his 2021 campaign between the Twins and Tigers, ultimately pitching 11 troublesome innings at the big league level in which he registered a 13.91 ERA, 2.36 WHIP and 8/10 K/BB ratio. Burrows, who has spent the majority of his minor league career as a starter, could work in a swingman role in the upper minors for the Dodgers.

Burrows was designated for assignment by the Twins and went unclaimed. The former first-round pick can either elect free agency or report back to St. Paul.

Burrows struggled mightily in a spot start Monday against the White Sox, yielding seven runs -- six earned -- in just two innings of work. It’s unclear when he might get another shot.

Burrows has given up 14 runs and amassed a 5/8 K/BB ratio in 9 1/3 innings for the Twins, suggesting that his time with the team might not last much longer. The 24-year-old also gave up four runs in 1 2/3 innings for the Tigers before the Twins claimed him off waivers in June.
