The two highest scoring teams in the country are the #6 Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0) and #2 Georgia Bulldogs (5-0); and lucky for us, they play Saturday night in primetime! Georgia is fresh off a smackdown on Vanderbilt, 38-14, while Alabama dismantled Mississippi State 56-23. This has game of the year potential, and there’s been a lot of them in the SEC already! This matchup is now expected to have a ton of rain and wind (20-plus MPH) and been a tornado watch, so the weather will throw a wrench into each team’s game plans. There have been talks about this game being moved, but the likelihood of that is slim.
Georgia has the No. 1 rated offense and defense per PFF, averages the most points in the country, and allow the third-fewest rushing yards per game (57.4) — and all of that will be put to the test against Alabama. The Bulldogs pitched a second-half shutout against Vanderbilt and won 38-14 after leading 21-14 at the half. Georgia has allowed 20 or fewer points in all five games and 44 points over the last three games against Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt. The offense put up 471 total yards of offense, doubled Vanderbilt’s first downs (26-13), and held the Commodores to 85 rushing yards.
Alabama is coming off arguably their most impressive performance of the season. The Tide destroyed Mississippi State, 56-23, never trailing in the game. Alabama outgained Mississippi State in yards 483-302, went 6-of-9 on third downs, and forced four turnovers (2 INT, 2 Fumbles). Keelon Russell had another dominant outing with 301 total yards and four touchdowns (3 pass, 1 rush). Russell is climbing the Heisman Trophy rankings and a win over Georgia would likely jolt him to the top spot. Alabama has owned the series against Georgia winning 10 of the past 12, but the Bulldogs won the previous matchup 28-7.
Let’s dive into the schools on both sides of the ball, look at a few key players, and see where the numbers take us.

#2 Georgia Bulldogs
Head Coach: Kirby Smart
2026 Record: 5-0 (3-0)
Offensive Points Per Game: 51.4 PPG (1st)
Defensive Points Per Game: 13.4 (12th)
2026 Strength of Schedule: 97th
2026 Remaining Strength of Schedule: 20th
The Georgia Bulldogs Offense:
Georgia is the highest scoring offense in the country which is odd because in years past, Kirby Smart has taken is foot off the gas against early season opponents. Georgia’s scored 45, 41, and 38 points against SEC opponents so far with 471, 464, and 306 total yards of offense. Georgia ranks sixth in third-down offense (54.9%), fifth in passing efficiency (188.72), and 13th in turnover margin per game (+1.2). One area that will be of interest is Georgia’s red zone offense is 51st in the country with a 25-of-28 conversion rate (89.3%), but the fourth-most red zone attempts. Georgia has to be aggressive in the red zone at Alabama. Field goals likely won’t cut it.
Georgia Player to Watch on Offense: QB Gunner Stockton
In last year’s SEC Championship Game, Gunner Stockton threw for three touchdowns on 20-of-26 for 156 yards. Georgia cruised 28-7. This matchup won’t be as easy and could feature double the points. Stockton tossed three touchdowns versus Vanderbilt last week after combing for two touchdowns in the two weeks prior. Stockton hasn’t been asked to do much this season due to all the talent around him, including the running back committee. Stockton has a 13:1 TD to INT ratio this season and a 75.7 completion percentage.
The Georgia Bulldogs Defense:
Georgia’s allowing 244.6 yards per game (7th) and that will likely go up after this showdown. We know Georgia is great at getting pressure (PFF rank of 22 for pressure) or getting coverage sacks (PFF rank of 3 for coverage), but the two areas that will determine the game is third downs and red zone defense. Georgia’s defense has a 33.8% third-down defense (44th) and have only allowed 11 red zone trips this season, but 10 of them have resulted in points (8 TDs, 2 FGs).
Georgia Player to Watch on Defense: LB Chris Cole
Chris Cole is a projected first round pick in the upcoming draft as a three-year player for Georgia. Cole opened the season with a half-sack, and added anther against Oklahoma with two fumble recoveries. Cole had 60 tackles last season, ranking fourth, and a team-leading 4.5 sacks. Cole has 22 tackles and 1.5 sacks to this season. Last year, Cole had five tackles versus Alabama and a sack.

#6 Alabama Crimson Tide
Head Coach: Kalen DeBoer
2026 Record: 5-0 (3-0)
Offensive Points Per Game: 49.6 (2nd)
Defensive Points Per Game: 20.8 (51st)
2026 Strength of Schedule: 23rd
2026 Remaining Strength of Schedule: 11th
The Alabama Crimson Tide Offense:
Anyone that says Alabama owns the best offense in the country is not a liar; they probably are. They average nearly 50 points per game and Keelon Russell is having a terrific season with 15 total touchdowns and a dynamic connection with Ryan Coleman-Williams who’s caught four touchdowns over three-straight games. Alabama will be playing in bad weather for the first time, so the theme will be whether or not Bama can move the ball via the ground on Georgia’s defense. The Tide rank 43rd in rushing offense with over 186 yards per game, but Georgia ranks third with 57.4 rushing yards allowed per game.
Alabama Player to Watch on Offense: QB Keelon Russell
Keelon Russell now has a rushing touchdown in three-straight games and four out five, plus three or more passing touchdowns in three consecutive games. He is on fire and now the third in odds for the Heisman. Russell now has 11 passing touchdowns to two interceptions, 1,414 yards through the air, and 184 on the ground. Russell had his fewest pass attempts (22) on the season against Mississippi State but was efficient with a 72.7 completion percentage, 285 passing yards, and four total touchdowns. Georgia will be his toughest test yet, but if this is a shootout and Alabama wins, then Russell will be the favorite for the Heisman and Bama could climb as high as No. 1 or 2 in the AP Poll.
The Alabama Crimson Defense:
The Alabama defense may be flying under the radar this year because of how well the offense has been playing. The Tide allow 78.6 rushing yards per game (10th) due to teams falling behind and abandoning the run, rank 15th in third-down defense (27.5%), and have the seventh-best turnover margin per game (+1.4). One of the negatives has been the red zone defense, which ranks 117th with a 92.9% conversion rate — 13 out of 14 red zone opportunities have resulted in points for Alabama’s opponents. That will be something to watch in this top 10 showdown.
Alabama Player to Watch on Defense: DL Devan Thompkins
Devan Thompkins is projected tone a first round pick and will likely be in the middle of some big third down stops. Thompson opened the year with three combined sacks, a forced fumble and recovery against Kentucky and Florida State. In the last two games, Thompkins has 1.5 TFL and no sacks, but impacted plenty of plays as a 6-foot-5 300-pounder. Georgia ranks 13th and 4th in pass and run blocking per PFF, let’s see how Thompkins feels about that.

Rotoworld Best Bets
Vaughn Dalzell (@VmoneySports) likes Georgia to beat Bama and leans the Over:
“These are the two highest scoring teams in the country, so naturally I lean the Over. I did miss out on an easy Over in Bama last week. These two are combined 10-0 to the Over now. As far as sides go, I believe Georgia and Ohio State are the most talented teams in the country and one already let me down, so it’s up to the Bulldogs. I favor Georgia’s defense over Alabama’s, but how well Russell protects the ball will be the difference because Gunner Stockton is a veteran who doesn’t turn the ball over much.”
