Chiefs signed ILB Brandon Siler (injured reserve, Achilles) to a one-year contract extension.
Signed in July, Siler didn’t play a down this season after tearing his Achilles’ tendon in training camp. He was expected to see a healthy dose of snaps alongside Derrick Johnson. A seventh-round pick of the Chargers in 2007, Siler made 12 starts in 58 career games before joining the Chiefs, notching 161 tackles and three sacks. Still only 26, Siler’s extension suggests he has a good shot at getting healthy enough to make the Chiefs’ 2012 roster.

Chiefs ILB Brandon Siler practiced Tuesday for the first time since undergoing Achilles surgery last August.
Siler blew out his Achilles on the final play of practice last August. Expected to compete for Jovan Belcher’s starting job last summer, Siler will battle for a roster spot as a special teamer and reserve this year.

Chargers signed seventh-round LB Brandon Siler to a four-year contract.
Siler left school a year too early, but has the talent to become a starting inside ‘backer some day. He should work mostly on special teams initially.

Tim Dobbins is the favorite to start next to Stephen Cooper at inside linebacker entering Chargers training camp.
Dobbins will have to hold off Kevin Burnett and Brandon Siler, but is probably the best pure run stopper of the group. He may only be a two-down player, though, with Burnett replacing him alongside Cooper in nickel packages.

The Chargers are convinced that second-year LB Brandon Siler is “bound for stardom,” according to SI.com’s Don Banks.
Siler fell to the seventh round in 2007 over attitude concerns, but made a big impact on special teams as a rookie. His role could expand on defense as a sophomore with ILB Stephen Cooper suspended the first four games.
