Baumann

Baumann signed a minor league contract with the O’s at the beginning of March and went on to surrender three earned runs in three Grapefruit League appearances covering just 1 1/3 innings. Yorkislandy Alvarez, JC Escarra, Garrett Farmer, Mason Janvrin, Zach Jarrett, Willy Yahn, Andrew Martinez, and Lamar Sparks have also been cut loose by Baltimore ahead of Opening Day.

Baumann last appeared in the majors with the Mets and Padres back in 2018. The 34-year-old southpaw reliever holds a pedestrian 5.58 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 35/18 K/BB ratio across 30 2/3 innings (38 appearances) in the big leagues since 2016. He hasn’t pitched professionally since making 17 appearances for the Lancaster Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League back in 2019. He’ll bolster the Orioles’ organizational relief depth this season.

Baumann was placed on the 60-day disabled list after hurting his back in spring training. If his rehab goes well, Baumann should be able to a carve a role for himself in San Diego’s bullpen. The 28-year-old owns a 3.16 ERA across 199 minor league appearances but has yet to pitch in the big leagues.

Baumann holds a 6.75 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over 5 1/3 innings with the big league club this season. He might only be up for a few days while Brandon Morrow is on paternity leave.

Baumann has a promising 1.33 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 23/9 K/BB ratio in 20 1/3 innings this year at Triple-A. He’s faced one batter at the MLB level in his career.

Baumann is over his back injury but will remain at El Paso in spite of a 1.46 ERA during his rehab assignment. He should get a shot eventually.

Baumann is recovered from the back injury that cost him the first two months of the season and had registered a 1.06 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 17 innings at Triple-A. The lefty will pitch in middle relief.

The 28-year-old southpaw posted a 6.75 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over 5 1/3 innings with the big league club. He should get another chance with the Padres once rosters expand in September.

The move clears a spot for Brandon Morrow’s return from the paternity leave list. Baumann owns a 6.75 ERA in seven appearances with the Padres this season.

Baumann retired the only batter he faced in his brief time with the big club. He should get another shot later this summer.
