Barnes was just promoted from Triple-A on Friday, but after being used in back-to-back games he wasn’t going to be available on Sunday, so the Dodgers opted to swap him out for a fresh arm. The 30-year-old left-hander should get another chance with the big league club in relatively short order.

The 30-year-old southpaw was claimed off of waivers from the Cubs last weekend. He’ll provide the Dodgers’ bullpen with a fresh arm that’s capable of working multiple innings in the wake of the Blake Snell (elbow) injury.

Barnes provides Los Angeles with some additional left-handed relief depth after being jettisoned from Chicago’s roster earlier this week. The 30-year-old southpaw made one relief appearance for the Cubs last month.

Barnes loses his spot on Chicago’s 40-man roster with reliever Trent Thornton coming up from Triple-A Iowa. The 30-year-old lefty made one relief appearance for the Cubs last month.

Barnes returns to the minors to make room for Phil Maton to rejoin Chicago’s bullpen. The 30-year-old lefty was charged with four runs over three innings of work during his lone appearance for the Cubs this season.

With Riley Martin (elbow) becoming the latest member of the Cubs’ bullpen to land on the injured list, Barnes will get another chance with the big league club. He has posted a 9.00 ERA and 2.33 WHIP in three innings with the Cubs so far this season.

Barnes worked three innings in Monday’s loss to the Phillies while allowing three runs. He’ll head back to help the Cubs replenish their bullpen depth, and likely will be a multi-inning option again at some point in 2026.

Barnes will add a fresh arm and length to the Cubs’ bullpen with Hunter Harvey (triceps) landing on the injured list on Sunday. The 30-year-old right-hander hasn’t appeared in a big league game since way back in the 2021 season with the Twins.

Barnes returned to major league baseball in 2025 after pitching in Korea for four seasons. He registered a 3.58 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 516/166 K/BB ratio in 553 innings in four seasons in the KBO. He signed with the Reds in August of 2025 and compiled a 7.13 ERA and 27/5 K/BB ratio in 24 innings at Triple-A. He will operate as organizational depth for the Cubs.

Barnes returns stateside after spending the last four years pitching for the Lotte Giants of the Korea Baseball Organization. The 29-year-old lefty hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since making nine appearances (eught starts) for the Twins back in 2021.
