Jaguars signed TE Colin Cloherty from their practice squad.
Formerly with the Colts and 49ers, Cloherty will take over as the No. 3 tight end in Jacksonville. Fendi Onobun, waived earlier in the week, has been re-signed to take Cloherty’s spot on the practice squad.

    Jaguars released TE Colin Cloherty.
Cloherty bounced between the Jaguars active roster and practice squad in 2011. Veteran tight end Stephen Spach was signed to replace him.
  • FA Tight End #81
Falcons signed TE Colin Cloherty to a two-year contract.
A 2009 undrafted free agent out of Brown, Cloherty has spent the majority of his NFL time on the practice squads of the Colts, 49ers and Jaguars. He has five career regular-season catches. Cloherty will be a camp body while Tony Gonzalez takes it easy in August.

Falcons waived TEs Colin Cloherty and Tim Biere, FB DeVonte Campbell, LB Nick Clancy, QB Seth Doege, DEs Cam Henderson and Brandon Thurmond, OT Jeff Nady, RB Donald Russell, S Troy Sanders, and C Matt Smith.
Nothing especially notable here. Clancy replaced Luke Kuechly as Boston College’s starting Mike ‘backer last year. He’s not nearly as good as Kuechly.

According to Len Pasquarelli, Colts officials think that undrafted rookie Colin Cloherty has Dallas Clark-like abilities.
This is obviously an exaggeration, but interesting nonetheless. Cloherty spent most of the season on the Colts’ practice squad after catching 40 passes at Brown University in 2008. He has decent size (6-2/245) and ran a 4.68 40-yard dash. Cloherty is still a longshot to ever have fantasy value.

49ers TE Nate Byham will undergo surgery to repair a torn left ACL suffered in a recent practice.
He’ll placed on injured reserve, ending his season. A 2010 sixth-round pick, Byham caught five passes for 27 yards in 14 games last season. He was ticketed for a blocking tight end and special teams role before the injury. Colin Cloherty and rookie Konrad Reuland will compete for the third tight end job.
  • FA Tight End #81
Colts waived TE Colin Cloherty and S Mike Newton.
The Colts are high on Cloherty’s pass-catching abilities, but he was buried on the depth chart.
  • FA Tight End #81
49ers promoted TE Colin Cloherty from the practice squad.
Cloherty takes K Joe Nedney’s (I.R., knee) spot on the active roster. Although the former Colt was once thought to have Dallas-Clark-like abilities, he provides little more than depth for the 49ers at tight end. Ignore him on the waiver wire.
  • FA Tight End #81
    49ers waived TE Colin Cloherty.
Cloherty has bounced around practice squads of the Colts and Niners since going undrafted in 2009. He can’t block or play special teams, and would need a creative team to find a way to fit him on a roster as a backup H-back type.
