Ex-Utah State forward Kyle Davis transfers to BYU

Kyle Davis Devante Wilson

Kyle Davis is continuing his tour of universities in Utah, transferring from Utah State to BYU, according to Greg Wrubell of, whoreported the newson Thursday night.

The sophomore forward started all but two games last season, averaging 9.1 points and 7.6 rebounds a night for the Aggies. Upon receiving his release from the school, he was offered by UC Santa Barbara, Hawaii and San Francisco along with BYU.

“I think Coach Rose expects me to play hard and take advantage of this year that I have to sit out,” Davis told Wrubell on Thursday, “to expand my game and become the best player I can be; to help us improve on the scout team and help the team win, even when I can’t play.”

Davis’ college career began in 2010, as a member of Southern Utah. He posted 8.5 points and 5.3 rebounds in almost 20 minutes per game. Following his freshman campaign, Davis, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, went to serve a mission. Southern Utah head coach Roger Reid retired in 2012, prompting Davis’ move to Utah State.

Davis will have two years of eligibility remaining once he sits out the 2014-2015 season, per NCAA transfer rules.
