After appearing in 34 games for the surprising South Florida Bulls in 2011-12 and transferring from the program at the end of the season, rising junior Blake Nash has landed at Texas Tech, according to Nash’s Twitter feed Tuesday.
Nash averaged 3.7 points and 1.1 assists per game this past season for South Florida, a team that made a run throughout the year, finishing 22-14 and losing to Ohio in the Round of 32 of the NCAA tournament.
Prior to his transfer, the move had been rumored about for some time, and Nash has reportedly been in Texas working out with the team.
He played his freshman season of college basketball at Williston State, averaging 22.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.
According to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, Nash, an Arizona native, has an illness in the family and could file for a hardship waiver with the NCAA which would give him two years of eligibility remaining at Texas Tech.
Assuming he is granted a hardship waiver, Nash would come to a Red Raider team that finished 8-23 overall, including 1-17 in the Big 12. Their only victory in conference play came against Oklahoma in February.
Leading scorer Jordan Tolbert will return for his sophomore season and will join a massive nine-man recruiting class coming to Texas Tech. That 2012 class is led by point guard Josh Gray, a 6-1 native of Houston, Texas.
