Taylor University’s 2014 ‘Silent Night’ game (VIDEOS)

Taylor University

Taylor University, an NAIA school in Upland, Indianapolis, plays host to one of college basketball’s best traditions each December. On the Friday before finals, the campus packs the gymnasium and remains completely quiet for the first nine points. When point No. 10 drops through the net the fans don’t just break their silence, they go nuts.

On Friday night, some fans reportedly used the event as a platform to discuss well-documented situations in Ferguson and New York City. Gregg Doyel, columnist for the Indianapolis Star, was at Taylor University:

After Taylor scores 10th point and Silent Night crowd goes nuts, students on baseline hold one poster each spelling out: #blacklivesmatter

Keaton Hendricks scored the 10th point for Taylor in Friday night’s game against Kentucky Christian.

Besides the political statement from students, there were plenty of others participating in the event by celebrating, rushing the floor and later singing “Silent Night.” (Video courtesy of Andrew Lentz)
