The Morning Mix

- Our must-read story of the day has absolutely nothing to do with college basketball. However, it may be the most fascinating story you read all week.

- Expansionocalypse is back in the news again. Conference-USA will add six new teams next year. Charlotte was offered a spot in the Sun BElt, but has turned it down. The WAC remains on life support. The CAA now has some decisions to make. Plus Butler is officially joining the Atlantic-10 at the start of the 2013 season. But Gary Parrish wonders if “The Butler Way” will work in a higher-profile conference.

- Notre Dame’s Tim Abromaitis was denied a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. While I understand the decision, “Abro” deserved better

- Wake Forest-transfer Carson DeRosiers has decided to attend Providence v. Don’t look now, but Ed Cooley’s squad could be scary good in 2-3 years

- In case you missed it, the Indiana-Kentucky rivalry could get put on hiatus. Really? After what happened this past season? This cannot happen

- The Kentucky Wildcats will be in Washington, D.C. on Friday to meet President Obama

- James Johnson was introduced as the new head coach at Virginia Tech, and stated that he was the best candidate for the job, despite leaving VaTech for Clemson just a few weeks ago. What are the three main challenges that Johnson will face as the head coach of the Hokies?

- Michigan recruit Austin Hatch, who was severely injured in a 2011 plane crash, vows to play for the Wolverines in 2013-2014. If he does, which we all hope he is able to, it will easily become the early season story of the year

- Louisville’s Luke Hancock, who transferred froM George Mason a year ago, will undergo surgery to replace his injured shoulder. The junior had to sit out last season due to NCAA regulations, but this will be the second surgery performed on his shoulder

- Jim Boeheim makes a cameo in Syracuse’s music video parody of “I’m Sexy and I know it”. (This is certainly one of the better parody videos we’ve been privy to recently)

- Speaking of the Orange, Dion Waiters loved life at Syracuse, which is kind of bizarre, because well, it’s Syracuse

- Kentucky Sports Radio wants to know who will be next season’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. But I think it’s farfetched to think that anybody can step in and provide all the essentials and intangibles that MKG provided

- If you aren’t reading The College Hoopedia on a daily basis, you are really missing out

- How will NBA draft early entrants effect the conferences they played in? Run The Floor attempts to answer that question

- North Carolina could be adding a few in-state opponents to their non-conference schedule
