The Morning Mix

-The ESPYs were last night. Much of Rob Riggle’s opening bit was spent clowning Anthony Davis for his trademark brow and having Tim Tebow give John Calipari a motivational speech. I still don'[t understand how Norfolk State/Missouri didn’t win “Best Upset” and Missouri/Kansas didn’t win “Best Game”

- In other ESPY news, Indiana’s Christian Watford won “Best Play” for well, you know, the best play of the year. Wanna see the reactions of both Tom Crean and John Calipari during the announcement? Priceless

- Pat Summit was honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. If you didn’t at least consider tearing up during the video package, turn in your man-card

- ESPN released the schedule for the 2012-2013 Marathon Madness tip-off event. Jeff Eisenberg ranks the games. Houston Baptist vs Hawaii at 4:00AM EST? That’s what we call “nap time”

- I really hope Doug Gottlieb doesn’t leave ESPN for CBS. Sure, CBS has the tournament, but he’s a daily staple of my college hoops intake, and I still haven’t found CBS’s daily college basketball programming

- Jabari Parker, the top recruit in the class of 2013, finally revealed his top-10 list of schools. The Chicago-native his in-state Illini off the list

- Top-100 recruit Melvin Johnson received his scholarship release from “The U”

- Fans will be able to attend the aircraft carrier game between Georgetown and Florida. Well, fans can attend if they pony up $1,000 for a ticket

- T.J. Kline, the son of legendary female hoopster Nancy Lieberman, will attend Niagara

- Boston star Jake O’Brien has decided to transfer, and apparently it’s because the Terriers won’t be eligible to compete in post-season play (That’s how you know the transfer problem is so out of control. We got guys from BU leaving to “chase rings”)

- Quinnipiac extened the contract of head coach Tom Moore until the 2015-2016 season. Jon Templon explains why this is just another sign that QU continues to invest heavily in the hoops program

- Georgetown’s Hollis Thompson left school early in order to get drafted, but ended up on the outside looking in on draft night. He’s no longer on the outside, now that he’s signed a three-year deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder

- Is the Atlantic-10 ready for VCU’s “Havoc defense”?

- I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve ever mentioned Stevie Wonder’s name in The Morning Mix. Why did I just mention Stevie Wonder? Because something weird may or may not have gone down at the University of Hawaii. Yes, I know that doesn’t make much sense. Just click the link. Trust me
