Not a lot of news and notes on the docket today. But after all, it’s late July.
- We will start with a somber note. On Tuesday, the world lost one of the all-time great comedians, Sherman Hemsley, at the age of 74. The man known as “George Jefferson” had arguably one of the best struts in the business. True, this has nothing to do with hoops, but the man was an iconic comedian who dominated the sitcom circuit for more than three decades
- Mississippi State received some terrible news yesterday. Incoming freshman Jacoby Davis, the likely starting point guard next season, tore his ACL and will likely miss the entire 2012-2013 campaign
- But not all is lost in Starkeville. Mississippi State and Loyola (Ill.) will meet the next two season to commemorate the 50th anniversary of “The Game of Change”
- Well this is kinda weird. The SEC conference schedule that the coaches discussed earlier in the month isn’t exactly same
- Iowa State Fred Hoiberg became the king of transfers last season, and is hoping that a talented freshman class will be able to blend in quite nicely with his returners
- College of Charleston might be starting to make preparations towards heading to the CAA
- Syracuse’s Mookie Jones does more flip-flopping than Dwight Howard. But this time, Jones says he’s done for good
- Upcoming AAU tournaments in Las Vegas might end in lawsuits
- Mid Major Madness ranks the top “one-hit wonders” from the 2011-2012 season
- Is Andrew Wiggins the new next big thing in college hoops? The Big Lead certainly thinks so
- Listen, I love Maker’s Mark (and hated studying) as much as the next guy, but this is just out of control
- I usually agree with Glen Logan. but after reading this it seems like he’s implying that Kentucky never offered Chris Walker because he was too cocky. I just don’t see any evidence to suggest that is the reason why he was never offered from #BBN
- ESPN’s Summer Shootaround series continues with an in-depth look at the Big-XII conference
- Nick Resavy played at Syracuse. Well, “played” might be a strong word. But the kid is certainly making the most of his opportunities. The former walk-on turned graduate assistant is now working as a team scout at many AAU teams across the country
