Colts re-signed QB Jason Bean to their practice squad.
Bean was unable to make the 53-man roster, but the Colts saw enough out of the 25-year-old to keep him in the organization. That’s not a surprise, as Bean was one of the best performing quarterbacks in exhibition season; leading the NFL in yards per attempt (10.4) and finishing second in completion percentage (79 percent).

Colts signed Kansas QB Jason Bean.
Bean (6’3/195) will be 25 at the start of his rookie season. The former Jayhawk ran a 4.56 at his Pro Day, and spent three seasons at Kansas after transferring from North Texas in 2021. Bean threw for 4662-38-17 with the Jayhawks and added another 902 yards and nine scores on the ground. The dual-threat quarterback helped lead the Jayhawks to an upset win over Oklahoma in 2023 and led top-25 scoring offenses in his final two seasons. Despite his dual threat capabilities, Bean’s slight frame will leave him susceptible to injury at the pro level. His accuracy also leaves much to be desired. He could make for an intriguing preseason DFS play if he gets the opportunity to suit up, but we wouldn’t expect him to be long for the NFL. Bean’s speed could make him a good backup to Anthony Richardson in practice, though he won’t be able to play like him in a live game.

Kansas junior QB Jason Bean (undisclosed) is dressed out and warming up ahead of Saturday’s game against Texas.
Bean (6'3/189) and Miles Kendrick were both banged up during last weekend’s loss to Kansas State, with the latter being lost for the remainder of the season. Bean appears likely to play Saturday night, but we should see some Jalon Daniels as well. How much action Daniels gets will depend upon Bean’s health...and effectiveness.

  • FA Quarterback #12
Kansas junior QB Jason Bean (undisclosed) is considered questionable at best ahead of Saturday’s road matchup against Texas.
The Jayhawks got three quarterbacks into last week’s game against Kansas State after Bean (6'3/189) exited with an undisclosed injury, while backup quarterback Miles Kendrick left with a leg injury that led to him being ruled out for the season. It has been a difficult season for Kansas (1-8) who would likely start quarterback Jalon Daniels against Texas if Bean is unable to go this weekend. On the season, Bean has thrown for 1,252 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions while also rushing for 425 yards and two touchdowns on 60 carries.

  • FA Quarterback #12
Kansas junior QB Jason Bean (undisclosed) exited in the first half of Kansas’ 35-10 loss to Kansas State and did not return to action.
Head coach Lance Leipold didn’t have an update on Bean’s (6'3/189) injury after the game, as Bean exited and was replaced by quarterback Jalon Daniels. On the day, Daniels went 13-for-19 passing for 105 yards and one touchdown, as he and the Jayhawks struggled to get much going offensively. Now sitting at 1-8, Kansas will travel to Texas to face the Longhorns next weekend.

  • FA Quarterback #12
Kansas junior QB Jason Bean (undisclosed) departed Saturday’s game against Kansas State during the first half.
Bean (6'3/189) is the second quarterback that Kansas has lost due to injury Saturday, with Miles Kendrick being the first. As a result Jalon Daniels has entered the game, but this puts the Jayhawks in an interesting situation. HC Lance Leipold planned to redshirt Daniels this season, and this will be his third appearance. A player can appear in up to four games and still take a redshirt.

    Miles Kendrick
    KU #3
Kansas senior QB Miles Kendrick (left leg) was helped off the field during the first half of Saturday’s game against Kansas State.
Kendrick (5'10/203) is the second offensive player to be carted off the field Saturday, with wide receiver Torry Locklin being the first. The senior quarterback was in the game for Jason Bean, who has since returned to action.

Kansas junior QB Jason Bean went 3-of-10 passing for 10 yards and two interceptions in Saturday’s 55-3 loss to Oklahoma State.
Bean (6'3"/189) looked great last week and almost pulled off the upset against Oklahoma, but this week would be a massive flop. The first two possessions for Kansas were a quick three-and-out, followed by back-to-back interceptions. It was just bad as Bean and the Jayhawks did not get a first down at all in the first half. With Kansas down 38-0 going in halftime, Bean was benched in the second half. They’re riding a seven-game losing streak without a Big 12 win as they play in-state rival Kansas State.

  • FA Quarterback #12
Kansas junior QB Jason Bean went 17-of-23 passing for 246 yards and a touchdown and ran for 59 yards in Saturday’s 35-23 loss to Oklahoma.
The Jayhawks entered the fourth quarter leading 17-14. If they’d held on to win as 39-point underdogs, it would have been the biggest upset in college football history in a game between FBS teams. Kansas’ defense eventually succumbed to Caleb Williams in the fourth quarter. But Bean’s superlative performance kept Rock Chalk in it until the final minute, when OU scored a final TD. Bean went 6-for-9 for 63 yards and also ran for 52 yards before halftime to stake Kansas to a 10-0 at the break. Oklahoma DC Alex Grinch cleaned up his strategy on run defense during halftime. Suddenly, Bean couldn’t break contain on read-options. Overall a very encouraging performance from the transfer from North Texas, certainly some of his best work from the pocket. Bean’s 1-6 Jayhawks will try to carry over some momentum generated from this strong performance when they travel to Oklahoma State next weekend.

  • FA Quarterback #12
Kansas junior QB Jason Bean completed 11-of-21 passes for 8 yards and an interception, and ran five times for 14 yards in Kansas’ 41-14 loss to Texas Tech.
Bean (6'3"/189) has been a shaky passer all season, and this was one of his down games. This one might have been the worst of the year though, with only 80 yards and a pick to his name. For some reason, despite how good he’s been on the ground so far, these last two weeks Kansas has limited his rushing attempts. The few times he got to run he still looked fast, but those opportunities were few and far between. Without the running, Bean doesn’t offer too much honestly. He missed a number of throws, mostly high, including on his interception and he could’ve had a few more. Bean was benched in the 4th with the score 38-0 and his replacement Miles Kendrick did lead two straight touchdown drives but that was deep into garbage time. We’ll see what Kansas wants to do against a surging Oklahoma team next Saturday.
