Tim Kimbrough, Georgia’s leading returning tackler, says he ‘didn’t have a choice to stay’ at UGA

A situation in Athens that began developing Wednesday has apparently found its conclusion a day later.

Following a scrimmage yesterday, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart confirmed to the media that Tim Kimbrough had taken “a little leave of absence right now.” Shortly thereafter, the linebacker sent out a series of cryptic tweets on his personal Twitter account, indicating that it wasn’t his decision.

Sometime in Life you will have to make a hard decision even if you don’t want to make it.. You just had to do it

It was a family decision

Wednesday night, Kimbrough’s father confirmed that his son would be leaving Georgia.

“He just made a decision to leave in his best interest,” Tim Kimbrough Sr. told the Athens Banner-Herald.

“He didn’t get into trouble or nothing like that. It’s just in our best interests. We’re from Indiana and it’s kind of hard. I can’t do everything 600 miles away and get information like I’m supposed to. He just was very unhappy.”

Then, on Twitter again this morning, the younger Kimbrough indicated there was some type of an issue with the first-year coaching staff.

I have to go to a D2 school so I can play this year.. I’m not sitting out this year.. DM me for more info

These developments seemingly put the finishing touches on what’s been a rocky last few months for Kimbrough.

In December, UGA announced that Kimbrough had been suspended for the TaxSlayer Bowl for unspecified violations of team rules. Smart, though, allowed Kimbrough to return this spring, only to see the inside ‘backer fall behind on the depth chart and run with the second-team defense.

Kimbrough finished third on the Bulldogs in tackles last year, and would’ve been the team’s leading returning tackler this season.
