Utah has fallen out of the picture for the Pac-12 South Division after this weekend’s results, which leaves four teams left standing with a chance to play in the Pac-12 championship. Is USC hot at the best possible time or will Colorado pull off the next chapter in a season-long story of redemption? Can Washington make a playoff push? We’re about to find out how the Pac-12 will be won starting this week with the divisions being clinched in the North and South.
The Pac-12 North is incredibly easy to figure out.
- Winner of Washington vs. Washington State wins Pac-12 North
The Apple Cup will be the de facto Pac-12 North championship game even after Washington State took a loss over the weekend at Colorado. The result of that game did nothing to change the Pac-12 North picture, although it does hurt Washington’s playoff hopes by knocking out a top 25 opponent from the schedule. The Huskies would have benefitted from having the Cougars in the top 25, but none of that may end up mattering anyway in the long run if the Huskies win out.
The Pac-12 South is also pretty easy to figure out.
- Colorado wins the Pac-12 South with a win against Utah
- USC wins Pac-12 South with a Colorado loss
Colorado can celebrate a division championship on its home field if they can top Utah this weekend in Boulder. If they do not, then USC will win the division. The Trojans have already wrapped up their Pac-12 schedule and will play Notre Dame this week to close out the regular season. The result of the Notre Dame game means nothing for USC’s Pac-12 hopes, just overall national ranking.
USC is the lone team to beat Washington so far this season, so the Huskies would probably like to avoid a rematch if possible and take their chances with Colorado. But first, they must beat Washington State.
