Giants WR Dan DePalma is recovering from offseason hip surgery.
There are no details on the procedure. An undersized (5-11/195) receiver from D-II West Chester (Pa.) University, DePalma played the role of Wes Welker as a practice squad player last year. Although Giants defenders tabbed DePalma as one of the toughest to cover, he remains a long-shot for the 53-man roster.
  • Wide Receiver
Chargers signed WRs Deon Butler and Dan DePalma, and DB Cornelius Brown.
They’re offseason depth. The 91st pick in the 2009 draft, Butler has the most notable name as a former Penn State Nittany Lion who ran 4.32 at the Combine. He only has 57 receptions for 611 yards (10.7 YPR) and four scores across three NFL seasons and was not tendered as a restricted free agent by Seattle.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Chargers placed WR Dan DePalma (shoulder), FB Chris Gronkowski (ankle), and WR Mike Willie (knee) on injured reserve, ending their seasons.
They were all bubble players. DePalma ostensibly practiced well in OTAs, but he was never going to beat out Eddie Royal for the slot receiver job.
