They couldn’t cut it at rookie minicamp. The Jets will move forward with UDFA Brett Maher out of Nebraska as the “camp leg” behind starter Nick Folk.

The second-year UDFA was cut by the Jets last month. He’ll be Connor Barth’s caddie in training camp.

Dimke spent last summer in training camp with the Lions. At Illinois, he made 39-of-46 field goal attempts in three seasons. Dimke will be a camp leg.

“We’ll see how that plays out,” Schiano claimed Thursday. Tynes will have to majorly face-plant to lose the job.

With the Saints having moved on from K Garrett Hartley, Dimke should get a chance to win the team’s kicking competition next summer. The second-year undrafted free agent is unlikely to be the favorite, however. Veteran Shayne Graham is 2-of-2 on field-goal attempts since replacing Hartley.

Graham, a 13-year veteran, is battling 24-year-old Derek Dimke, who has never appeared in an NFL game. At the kicking position, experience typically wins out. Graham will be a fine fantasy kicking option as a dome kicker in an explosive offense.

Veteran Shayne Graham was viewed as the heavy favorite, but Dimke has a strong leg and is performing well. Experience usually wins out in the kicking game, however, so it would be surprising if Graham did not win the job.

The moves leave the Saints without a kicker on the roster. They will look to the waiver wire for a veteran option. Graham went 6-for-8 for the Saints last season after replacing the struggling Garrett Hartley.
