Seahawks released rookie punter Donnie Jones.

    Chargers signed P Donnie Jones.
Jones will replace Drew Kaser in Los Angeles. The Chargers special teams has been struggling as usual -- they have given up a touchdown return, a blocked punt touchdown, have the second-worst net punting yards average in the NFL, and Kaser has been sloppy holding the ball on kick attempts which have led to misses -- and Jones will try to straighten things out. Jones was one of the better punters in the league before asking for his release (and almost retiring) earlier this offseason.

Texans agreed to terms with P Donnie Jones on a one-year contract.
Jones, who turns 32 before the season, spent the last five year punting for the Rams. His 2011 net average of 37.0 ranked 31st in the league and was the worst of Jones’ tenure in St. Louis. Texans incumbent punter, Brett Hartmann, is coming off a torn ACL and facing a three-game suspension to open the year.

The Rams have “been in contract discussions” with free agents WLB Chris Chamberlain, LG Jacob Bell, and P Donnie Jones.
The Rams are “early in talks” with Chamberlain, who was one of the team’s better run defenders as a first-year starter. The coaching staff also believes Bell showed improved blocking ability later in the season. Jones was considered for the franchise tag at one point.

He’s replacing Mat McBriar, who’s been released. Jones is coming off a solid season for the Texans, but was let go in favor of Shane Lechler. Jones has spent the past six years kicking in domes, so he could find the great outdoors of Lincoln Financial Field challenging.

Renew those season tickets, Texans fans. Jones, 33 in July, finished No. 13 in the NFL with his 40.5 net average last season.

He played with coach Nick Saban at LSU. It’s possible the team will look for a veteran next week.

Eagles signed P Donnie Jones to a three-year extension through 2019.
