Freeney

The Colts could ill afford to lose their Pro Bowl sack artist. They’ll update his condition today.

He now has 13 for the season, which ties his own franchise record. Freeney remains one of the most consistent sack artists in the league, with 37 the last three seasons.

Freeney has a mild strain of his right calf. Mathis has a groin injury. Both are expected to play on Thanksgiving.

He won’t return to game action right away, but should be ready for week one. This is basically a contract year for Freeney, so he’ll be motivated to keep up his record-setting sack pace.

Freeney has been restricted to non-contact drills after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery.

As Profootballtalk.com notes, Freeney likely would have remained without an agent if he didn’t anticipate either restructuring his contract or being released by the Colts. Freeney is firmly on the trade block. In order pull off a deal, Indy will absolutely need Freeney to redo his $14.035M salary.
