Logan Brown surging early

Western Hockey League

Cody Glass of the Portland Winterhawks captured the WHL Player of the Week honor. He notched three goals and eight points in four contests. He is eligible for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and leads the WHL in scoring with 16 points through nine matches. Jordan Flodell was named the CHL Goaltender of the Week. The 19-year-old posted a 2-0-0-0 record, including one shutout, with a miniscule 0.50 goals-against average and an .985 save percentage. He racked up 65 saves in two outings. Sam Steel has 10 points in just four games. He picked up a goal and two helpers in a 5-2 win over Brandon last Saturday. Steel was the 30th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft by Anaheim.

Ontario Hockey League

Logan Brown was tabbed as the OHL Player of the Week after he produced eight points, including six assists, in three games for the Windsor Spitfires. Brown extended his point streak to six games and he currently has amassed 14 points in six contests. The 18-year-old center was taken with the 11th overall pick in the 2016 draft by the Ottawa Senators. Chicago Blackhawks prospect Alex DeBrincat made an immediate impact in his return from NHL training camp. He generated four goals and four assists in three outings for the Erie Otters. DeBrincat was chosen in the second round (39th overall) in 2016. Nikita Korsetelev has been a human-highlight reel plays in the OHL this campaign. He potted four goals and added an assist in two matches for the Sarnia Sting. The Maple Leafs selection, who was snagged in the seventh round of the 2015 draft class, has 11 points in five games. 18-year-old netminder Troy Timpano was considered for the CHL Goaltender of the Week award after he posted a 2-0-0-0 record with a 1.50 GAA, a .943 save percentage and one shutout.

Quebec Major Hockey League

Cameron Askew of the Moncton Wildcats was the CHL Player of the Week and the first star of the week in the QMJHL after he produced three goals and three assists for six points in just two matches. The 19-year-old is playing in his fourth season in the QMJHL and he has eight points in seven games. Florida Panthers prospect Samuel Montembeault was the league’s second star of the week and he was considered for the CHL Goaltender of the Week award. He posted two wins in two games, while earning a shutout, a 0.46 GAA and a .978 save percentage. Samuel Girard got back from training camp with the Nashville Predators and claimed the third star of the week distinction. The offensive-minded defender compiled seven helpers in just two games for Shawinigan.
