Rookie safety Gibril Wilson led the Giants in tackles for the second straight week.
The injury fill-in looks like an IDP factor for the rest of the season.
  • FA Defensive Back
Giants safety Gibril Wilson is likely to miss his second straight week with nerve damage in his shoulder.
He was our favorite for NFL rookie of the year before the injury. Cornerback Terry Cousin will likely take his spot.

Giants safety Gibril Wilson didn’t practice all week because of nerve damage in his shoulder.
Wilson, probably New York’s best healthy defender, won’t be able to help cover Terrell Owens on Sunday. Look for some deep scores from T.O.

Free agent S Gibril Wilson reportedly wants to play in the Bay Area.
Wilson, a San Jose native, isn’t the thumper Oakland would like at strong safety, but if Al Davis wants him, he could be a Raider quick. In addition to the Eagles and Jaguars, the Falcons reportedly also have him on their radar.

Someone familiar with the situation tells Newsday that free agent S Gibril Wilson is expected to sign a deal with the Raiders.
The deal would be for $6-6.5 million a year, more than he was initially said to be seeking. Wilson had an inconsistent run in New York, where he often flashed big-hitting skills with inconsistent coverage ability. Michael Huff, if he stays, will probably move to free safety but that’s just speculation on our part.

FOXSports.com’s Jay Glazer reports free agent S Gibril Wilson’s deal with the Raiders will be for six years and $39 million.
It’ll include a whopping $16 million signing bonus. Glazer says the Giants were unwilling to match the offer, which is almost a given. Word around the NFL is that Al Davis is overpaying because nobody wants to go to Oakland.

Dolphins agreed to terms with SS Gibril Wilson on a five-year, $27.5 million contract. The deal includes $8 million in guarantees.
Other teams were surprisingly slow to pursue Wilson even though he’s only 27 and a difference-making hitter in the back end. He wasn’t the main problem in Oakland’s secondary last year and finished with more tackles than any DB in the game, although he missed his fair share too. Still, he also has ballhawking skills and came at a tremendous discount; $8M guaranteed is chump change in this market. Yeremiah Bell figures to leave in free agency now.
  • FA Defensive Back #29
The Raiders have formally moved Michael Huff to free safety.
It limits Huff’s IDP potential, but he wasn’t a great fantasy target anyways. Huff could make a nice leap this season at the position he’s best suited for. SS Gibril Wilson will roam more in the box and has 100-tackle potential.

Raiders SS Gibril Wilson has lined up in the box 90 percent of the time during training camp, according to coach Lane Kiffin.
Oakland will use Wilson as a fourth linebacker to try and solve their run woes. It’s also terrific news for Wilson’s IDP value. He’s our No. 4 defensive back overall, behind only Roman Harper, Michael Lewis, and Sean Jones.
