The site of last week’s RBC Heritage, Harbour Town Golf Links is about to undergo an extensive re-grassing and irrigation project.
Course superintendent Jonathan Wright told the Beaufort Gazette that his crew will spray the property’s grass dead on May 4, replacing it with new Celebration Bermuda in the fairways and rough and TifEagle on the greens.
The project also includes the completion of a new irrigation system, on which work began last year.
Per the report, “the course has been mapped with GPS and three-dimensional imaging, so that slopes and contours can be restored to the appropriate design.”
“It’s kind of bittersweet - you’ve been around this grass trying to keep it alive and make it look good,” Wright told the Gazette. “I feel kind of bad about it, but it’s going to be awesome.”
The course is expected to re-open for play in September. The PGA Tour has held an annual event at Harbour Town since 1969.
