It seems likely that Rory McIlroy will begin 2012 as a PGA Tour member. Whether former world No. 1 Martin Kaymer also ends his American hiatus is not so clear.
Two weeks ago at the European Masters, Kaymer said he remains uncertain about the possibility of duel membership on the U.S. circuit and in Europe. On Wednesday, Kaymer’s manager said there was no timeline for his client’s decision.
“It’s an ongoing discussion and we are still awaiting next year’s schedules,” said Johan Elliot with Stockholm-based Sportyard.
Kaymer seemed to be leaning toward duel membership at the European Masters. “I will play more tournaments next year and have longer breaks to really get away from golf and get back into it again,” said Kaymer, who played 10 PGA Tour events in 2011.
Fortunately for Kaymer and McIlroy they have time to tinker with their schedules before making their final decisions. According to Tour regulations both players have until Nov. 22, 30 days after the final event of the season at Disney, to take up membership.
