Mariners optioned C Blake Hunt to Triple-A Tacoma; reassigned INF/OF Nick Solak, INF Michael Chavis and OF Isiah Gilliam to minor league camp.
Solak and Chavis are the most notable cuts from Mariners camp as both have extensive big-league experience and figured to have a decent shot at making the season-opening roster with a strong spring performance.
  • SEA Outfield
Mariners re-signed OF Isiah Gilliam to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Gilliam, 27, split the 2023 season between the Mariners’ Double- and Triple-A affiliates while hitting .276/.392/.501 with 25 home runs and 25 steals over 122 games. He makes for useful upper-level depth for Seattle.
  • Right Fielder
Reds signed OF Isiah Gilliam to a minor league contract.
Gilliam spent the last seven years in the Yankees’ minor-league system, hitting .235/.334/.409 with 11 homers and 26 steals at Double-A Somerset last season. The 25-year-old outfielder has performed exceptionally well in the Puerto Rican Winter League, hitting .302/.455/.442 across 15 games. He’ll add some minor-league outfield depth for the Reds next season.

  • Right Fielder
Yankees OF prospect Isiah Gilliam notched four hits Tuesday in a win for Rookie-level Pulaski.
He finished a triple shy of the cycle while providing three of the Yankees’ seven runs. Gilliam got off to a slow start this year but has really turned it on over his last eight games. During that span he’s hit .529 with two homers, 10 RBI and a pair of stolen bases. The hot streak has raised Gilliam’s season average from .213 to .293. The 20-year-old joined the Yankees’ organization last summer as a 20th-round draft pick.
