Vega is another CFL standout to link up with the Patriots. He recorded 12 sacks over the last two seasons. One CFL executive compared Vega to current Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich as an “OK athlete” with a “high motor and good technique.” He’ll fight for a roster spot this summer.

Vega, a former difference-maker for the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers, was released by the Patriots Tuesday after suffering a knee injury in the second preseason game. He might just be a camp body until Anthony Spencer gets back in practice.

26-year-old Vega is a 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive end. His promotion confirms the Cowboys expect to be without DeMarcus Ware (quad) against Philly.
