Raiders signed TE Jeron Mastrud, formerly of the Dolphins.
Mastrud, 25, appeared in 14 games with Miami last season, playing 100 snaps. He wasn’t targeted in the passing game and is purely a blocker. The Raiders also claimed WR Andre Holmes off waivers from the Patriots. To make room, Oakland released TE Mickey Shuler and DB Akwasi Owusu-Ansah.
  • FA Tight End #87
Raiders TE Jeron Mastrud is expected to start Week 1 if David Ausberry (shoulder) can’t go.
Mastrud is a blocker that beat out Richard Gordon for a roster spot. The Raiders shouldn’t be done trying to dig up veteran tight end help to play ahead of raw rookies Mychal Rivera and Nick Kasa.
  • FA Tight End #89
Raiders TE David Ausberry (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday.
Ausberry, who hasn’t practiced since separating his shoulder on Aug. 16, was limited to catching passes on the side with a trainer while wearing a brace. Jeron Mastrud is going to start Sunday’s game against the Colts.
  • FA Wide Receiver #15
The Dolphins declined to tender restricted free agents WR Marlon Moore, S Jonathon Amaya, TE Jeron Mastrud, and DB Bryan McCann, and exclusive rights free agent Patrick Brown, making them unrestricted free agents.
The Dolphins want some of the above players back, but weren’t willing to pay the cost of the lowest possible tender. Moore, 25, caught six passes for 116 yards and a touchdown last season. Amaya and McCann play special teams.
  • NYJ Running Back
Bucs waived RB Carlos Brown, DBs Vince and Brandon Anderson, OL Marc Dile, and TE Jeron Mastrud.
We’re just trying to tie up some loose ends here. The Bucs are keeping five safeties, and the Andersons won’t be among them. Brown played college ball for Michigan, who blew out the UConn Huskies in Saturday’s opener.
  • FA Tight End #87
Dolphins signed TE Jeron Mastrud from their practice squad.
Mastrud, Kansas State’s all-time leader in tight end receptions, had short stints on the practice squad of the Bucs and Pats as well. He’ll back up Anthony Fasano.
