McCargo

He isn’t expected to miss any practice time.

It’s very early to project a role, especially since players haven’t been in pads yet, but Bills.com believes McCargo will play behind Tim Anderson. That’s typical for a rookie defensive lineman.

With Henry Melton, Matt Toeaina and Stephen Paea as the only experienced defensive tackles on the roster, the Bears have been looking for help on the interior. McCargo and Pressley were released by the Bucs and Panthers respectively after playing bit parts in 2011. Neither is a sure bet to make the final 53-man roster.

McCargo was placed on injured reserve late last season due to a triceps injury. The former No. 26 overall pick in the 2006 draft, McCargo has been one of the bigger first-round busts in recent memory.

He was just signed yesterday, but the Bucs are giving Albert Haynesworth a kick of the tires. McCargo will probably stay on speed dial in case Haynesworth either fails his physical or doesn’t show desire to play over the next few days.

McCargo’s triceps doesn’t necessarily have to be torn to land on injured reserve this time of year, but it likely is. The No. 26 overall pick of the 2006 draft appeared in four games this season, notching five tackles. He’s a poor bet to open 2012 on somebody’s active roster.

McCargo was waived last Wednesday after a one-day stay on the roster. The former first-round pick has appeared in just one game since the end of the 2009 season, and should be in for very limited snaps.

The No. 26 overall in the 2006 draft will add depth up front with DT Gerald McCoy (torn biceps) done for the season.

McCargo, a first-round pick last year, will battle incumbent Kyle Williams for the starting job at nose tackle, next to three technique Larry Tripplett.

Buffalo may not be counting on a big contribution from its 2006 first-rounder, having acquired Darwin Walker and retained restricted FA Tim Anderson.
