Cowboys acquired C Ryan Cook from the Dolphins for an undisclosed draft pick.
The compensation is expected to be a seventh-rounder. The Dolphins will shed Cook’s $1 million salary while handing the backup job to undrafted rookie Josh Samuda. Cook started 40 games over six seasons with the Vikings before joining Miami. The desperate Cowboys will count on Cook as insurance for shaky starter Phil Costa.
  • Vikings G/C Josh Samuda will be sidelined 9-10 months after fracturing his ankle and fibula, and damaging a deltoid ligament during Minnesota’s offseason conditioning program.
He’s a lock to spend 2014 on an injured list of some sort, or simply be released with an injury settlement. Samuda is a 2013 UDFA out of Massachusetts.
  • Vikings G/C Josh Samuda fractured and dislocated his ankle on Tuesday.
Samuda suffered the injury in voluntary workouts. The former undrafted free agent out of Massachusetts appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins in 2012 but hasn’t played in a regular season game since. He’ll have surgery on Wednesday morning and will likely spend the season on injured reserve.
  • Vikings G/C Josh Samuda (broken ankle) has also been diagnosed with a broken leg.
Per reporter Matt Vensel, Samuda could also have ligament damage. A fringe talent, the Vikings aren’t going to wait on Samuda to get healthy. He should be waived/injured and stashed on injured reserve.
