Hickman

Hickman was nominated for CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player award after recording 13 sacks in 18 games last season. A defensive end with the Tiger-Cats, the former UCLA star will likely switch to outside linebacker in the Colts’ new 3-4 defense.

Olsen started the first three games of the season, struggling in pass protection. Jeff Linkenbach and Joe Reitz haven’t fared any better as his replacements. Olsen should regain his starting job down the stretch. LB Justin Hickman (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move.

It’s a shame because Hickman was having a strong camp, and played well against the Bills. The former Hamilton Tiger-Cat will require major surgery.

The Colts re-signed Hickman to a one-year, $495,000 deal as an exclusive rights free agent in March. The soon-to-be 29-year-old spent all of last season on I.R. with a foot injury. He made 12 tackles in 12 games for the 2012 Colts.

Hickman, 27, spent all of 2013 on I.R. after suffering a foot injury in Indy’s preseason opener. He’ll compete for a roster spot in training camp.
