Hayden is still in a walking boot after a toe injury landed him on injured reserve in late December. He’ll have to prove he’s healthy and effective in training camp to earn a roster spot.

Although 2010 first-rounder Patrick Robinson is expected to move into the starting lineup, the Saints are on the lookout for veteran depth after losing Tracy Porter to the Broncos.

Hayden spent last season as a reserve in Atlanta. With a background in the Colts’ Tampa-2 defense, his skills should be a good fit for Lovie Smith’s defense in Chicago.

The 28-year-old was a liability in coverage while picking up mid-season snaps with the Falcons last season. Lovie Smith’s Tampa-2 defense should be a better for his skills, though he’s unlikely to play beyond sub-packages.

Hayden has been dealing with a dislocated toe for much of the season. With Brent Grimes now healthy, his services aren’t needed. Hayden’s season ends with 24 tackles and two interceptions in eight games.

Hayden was listed as “questionable” to return by the team, but he’s very unlikely to go back in. Chris Owens will stand in as Atlanta’s nickel cornerback.

Hayden was still in a walking boot as of early April, but he’s progressed back to 100 percent. The former Colts starter and Super Bowl hero ran with the first-team defense at Wednesday’s practice, with Charles Tillman absent from the voluntary workout. Hayden will battle for sub-package duties this August.

The Bears will turn to Kelvin Hayden if Tillman is not able to play. Tillman was injured early in the Week 1 contest against the Colts. Hayden came off the bench and recorded seven tackles and a pass defensed. Owners in IDP leagues may want to take a long look at Hayden against the high-powered Packers pass attack.

Coach Lovie Smith didn’t provide a timetable for Jennings, but it certainly has the look of a multi-week injury. His arm is in a sling this week. Veteran Kelvin Hayden is expected to move into the starting lineup with D.J. Moore activated to handle nickel duties. Jennings has been Pro Football Focus’ No. 7 cornerback through 12 games.
