Of the Patriots’ UDFA signings, the Boston Globe feels RB Brandon Bolden, DT Marcus Forston, and T Markus Zusevics have the best chance of sticking.
Bolden missed action due to injury and suspension at Mississippi in 2011. The Pats carried five tailbacks for all of 2011 and Bolden is currently fifth. Forston dealt with injuries and a suspension at Miami and has an opportunity to win a job on the interior line. Zusevics tore his left pectoral muscle during the Combine, but would have been a draft pick had he been healthy.
  • NE Wide Receiver #13
Patriots placed WR Matt Roark, OL Jeremiah Warren, OT Markus Zusevics and DE Justin Francis on the camp/NFI list.
All four failed their training camp physicals along with WR Jeremy Ebert, who was placed on camp/PUP. Roark played for former Tennessee star Tee Martin, his QBs coach in high school and WRs coach at Kentucky. The players can be activated from NFI at any point in camp.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Patriots waived WR Greg Salas and activated G/T Markus Zusevics from the NFI list.
Hint, hint: The Pats wouldn’t be cutting Salas if Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd were in any danger of missing Thursday night’s game. Despite questionable tags, they will both play. Zusevics is an undrafted rookie out of Iowa. He tore his pectoral muscle during the pre-draft process but has swing-lineman potential.
  • FA Tackle #76
Patriots placed T/G Markus Zusevics on injured reserve, ending his season.
Zusevics missed his entire rookie year (2012) with a torn pectoral muscle, and still isn’t back to 100 percent. He’ll take another “redshirt” in 2013.
  • FA Tackle #76
    Patriots waived G/T Markus Zusevics.
The 2012 undrafted free agent has missed each of the past two years with a torn pectoral.
  • FA Tackle #76
ESPN Boston gives 2012 UDFA OT Markus Zusevics a 35 percent chance of making the Patriots’ roster.
Zusevics spent his entire rookie year on the non-football injury list after tearing his pectoral at the Combine. He likely would have been drafted if not for the injury. The Patriots have just journeymen Kevin Haslam and Will Svitek behind starters Nate Solder and Sebastian Vollmer, so Zusevics should get a fair shake in camp. G/T Marcus Cannon is expected to focus on guard.
