    Saints signed CB Marquis Johnson.
A 2010 seventh-round pick, Johnson was waived by the Rams last week after seeing action in four games over the past two seasons. He’s a special teams player with shaky value as a sub-package cornerback prospect.
  • FA Defensive Back #49
Rams waived CB Marquis Johnson, CB Brian Jackson, and OL Thomas Welch.
Johnson, a 2010 seventh-rounder, was no longer needed after the additions of Cortland Finnegan and rookie Janoris Jenkins. Former Giants practice squad Jackson was placed on injured reserve last October, two weeks after signing. Welch was signed off the Patriots’ practice squad in November.
  • FA Defensive Back #49
Rams activated CB Marquis Johnson (knee, shoulder) from the PUP list.
Johnson was a pure special teamer as a rookie last season, but could see some time at nickel back with the Rams secondary being decimated by injury.
  • FA Defensive Back #49
Rams CB Marquis Johnson has been hospitalized with an “abdominal contusion,” and will stay overnight on Monday.
Things are getting comical in the Rams secondary, which just can’t keep anybody healthy. Activated off the PUP list only three weeks ago, Johnson sounds like a poor bet to suit up in Week 12. That’s bad news with starter Justin King nursing knee and ankle injuries.
  • FA Defensive Back #49
Rams placed CB Marquis Johnson on injured reserve with a lacerated spleen, ending his season.
Johnson was admitted to the hospital on Monday with an “abdominal contusion,” but was later diagnosed with perhaps the most painful sounding injury to send someone to injured reserve this season. He will not require surgery. A reserve, Johnson brings the number of Rams cornerbacks placed on I.R. since the beginning of training camp to a staggering 10.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Saints placed WR Nick Toon, RB Joe Banyard, S Jose Gumbs and CB Marquis Johnson on injured reserve, ending their seasons.
After an impressive offseason, Toon quickly fell behind Adrian Arrington, Joseph Morgan and Courtney Roby while dealing with a foot injury in training camp. Toon will have a shot at the No. 3 or 4 receiver role next season after red-shirting as a rookie.
  • FA Defensive Back #49
Rams CB Marquis Johnson (PUP, knee) resumed practicing this week.
Johnson is returning from rotator cuff surgery in addition to microfracture and OATS procedures on his knee. The OATS surgery involved taking a ligament from a non weight-bearing place and replacing it in the knee. Johnson had a “quarter-sized” hole in his knee and was on six weeks of bed rest after the operation. The Rams can’t expect a major contribution this season.
  • FA Defensive Back #49
Rams CB Marquis Johnson is recovering from offseason knee surgery.
The severity of the procedure isn’t known. Purely a special teamer, Johnson will begin training camp on the active/PUP list, severely hurting his chances of making the final roster.
  • FA Coaching Staff #7
Rams waived QB Thaddeus Lewis and signed Marquis Johnson from the practice squad.
Lews had an impressive preseason, and could be ticketed for the team’s practice squad.
  • DAL Running Back
Rams signed RB Chauncey Washington, WRs Joe West and Greg Mathews, OLs Ryan McKee and Drew Miller, DT Jimmy Saddler-McQueen, LB Maurice Simpkins, QB Thaddeus Lewis, and CB Marquis Johnson to futures contracts.
Lewis beat out Keith Null in training camp, ultimately landing on the practice squad. Washington has been pigeonholed as a special teamer. Johnson bookended Kareem Jackson at Alabama. He was a 2010 seventh-round pick.
