Ohio State OT Mike Adams managed just 19 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press at the Combine Friday.
It was one of the lower totals of the day. Adams has nearly 34-inch arms and an 82 1/2-inch wingspan, which makes benching tougher. He should probably still be able to hoist more than 20 reps. Georgia OL Cordy Glenn, who has 36-inch arms, repped 225 pounds 31 times. While Adams has big-time potential, he’s shaping up as an Anthony Davis kind of prospect coming out of Rutgers.

The Browns and Redskins have both approached Ohio State LT Mike Adams about the possibility of playing right tackle in their offenses.
Though incredibly gifted, Adams’ pass protection was inconsistent both as a Buckeye and at the Senior Bowl. He may have to begin his NFL career on the right side. “I’m open to do whatever a team needs me to do,” Adams confirmed. Adams is a realistic candidate to land with Cleveland at the No. 22 overall pick.
  • FA Tackle #76
NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports that Ohio State OT Mike Adams tested positive for marijuana at the NFL Combine.
These leaks happen every year. While they sometimes don’t torpedo draft stock, it’s another red flag for Adams -- a player who already struggles on game tape. We wouldn’t expect him to be drafted in the first round. Per La Canfora, Adams has been “upfront” with teams about the drug test, and he has already completed a counseling program. Look for Adams to be a mid-second-round pick.

Steelers selected Ohio State OT Mike Adams with the No. 56 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
A very different prospect than first-round pick David DeCastro, Adams has had a difficult postseason. First, he had an inconsistent Senior Bowl performance after a similar career at Ohio State. Then Adams only completed 19 bench press reps at the Combine and tested positive for marijuana. There is no doubting Adams possesses an ideal tackle build, but his reaction quickness and strength are lacking. The Steelers have a future starter on their hands if they set him straight.

The Steelers reportedly sent front office members and “main” coaches to Ohio State’s Friday Pro Day, with T Mike Adams the “apple of their eye”.
The Steelers certainly need offensive line help but Adams doesn’t fit their hard-nosed attitude. Adams’ play when covering the blindside was incredibly inconsistent and he drew mixed reviews from media onlookers during Senior Bowl week. He’s a realistic option at the 24th pick but the Steelers will need to toughen up the 6'7/323 pound tackle.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that second-round pick Mike Adams will practice exclusively at left tackle this offseason.
Some draftniks pegged Adams as a future right tackle, but he was strictly a left tackle at Ohio State and will begin his Pittsburgh career there. If Adams has a good spring and summer, he could open the season as Ben Roethlisberger’s blind side protector with Marcus Gilbert staying at right tackle and Willie Colon kicking to left guard. First-rounder David DeCastro will be the right guard.
  • FA Tackle #76
Steelers agreed to terms with No. 56 overall pick OT Mike Adams on a four-year contract.
He’s the fourth Steelers pick to sign. Coach Mike Tomlin has hinted Adams will be given an opportunity to start at left tackle. Adams has ideal blindside size at 6-foot-7, 323, but questions about his strength and quickness led many draftniks to peg him as a right tackle. Adams will compete with Marcus Gilbert at a position that was a source of great frustration for the 2011 Steelers.
  • FA Tackle #76
Ohio State T Mike Adams posted 21 bench press reps at the team’s Friday Pro Day.
Adams improved his result by two since his abysmal 19 repetitions at the Combine. The trouble is Adams repeatedly plays soft in his upper body along with inconsistent footwork and delayed reaction timing. Adams is a massive offensive tackle but needs to toughen up. The slight improvement is promising and Adams is still likely to be drafted in the first round.

“Numerous NFL scouts” told Sporting News’ Russ Lande that they view Ohio State LT Mike Adams as a superior prospect to Iowa LT Riley Reiff after Adams’ Senior Bowl performance in Mobile.
Per Lande, Adams entered the week viewed as a third-round prospect but moved at least into the second round and perhaps into the back end of the first. Reiff is NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock’s top-rated tackle for 2012. Mayock has Matt Kalil (USC) second, Jonathan Martin (Stanford) third, and Adams fourth.

According to SI.com’s Tony Pauline, NFL scouts believe Ohio State LT Mike Adams will be drafted “much higher than he’s presently projected.”
Pauline is “hearing anywhere from the middle of round one, on.” Listed at a mammoth 6-foot-8, 320, Adams is expected to measure closer to 6-foot-6 at next week’s Senior Bowl. The fourth-year senior was a second-team All-Big Ten pick in 2011, behind Iowa’s Riley Reiff and Wisconsin’s Josh Oglesby. Adams is considered to possess enough athleticism play left tackle in the pros.
