Colts agreed to terms with C/G Mike McGlynn.
This move has new GM Ryan Grigson’s fingerprints all over it. He was director of college scouting when the Eagles drafted McGlynn out of Pittsburgh as a 2008 fourth-round pick. McGlynn could end competing for a starting job in Indy.
  • FA Guard #77
Taking on a leadership role after Jeff Saturday’s exit, Mike McGlynn is penciled in as the starting right guard on a rebuilt Colts offensive line.
McGlynn and RT Winston Justice are favorites of new GM Ryan Grigson, who imported them from Philly. With 2011 second-rounder Ben Ijalana still inexperienced and recovering from a knee injury, Joe Reitz has the edge at left guard. Samson Satele and Anthony Castonzo are locked in at center and left tackle respectively.
  • FA Guard #77
Colts RT Mike McGlynn is out indefinitely with a high-ankle sprain.
McGlynn was competing with Winston Justice for right tackle duties, but this should just about wrap up the competition in Justice’s favor. McGlynn is in a race against time to be ready for Week 1. McGlynn is a highly ordinary talent, but the Colts’ thin line can ill afford any injuries.
  • FA Guard #77
Colts RG Mike McGlynn (high-ankle sprain) has resumed practicing this week.
“I’m ready to go this week,” said McGlynn, “excited about the first game and getting this season started.” Part of an overhauled interior along with LG Joe Reitz and C Samson Satele, McGlynn is practicing without limits.
  • FA Center #64
Colts C Samson Satele (knee) started Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars but lasted just one half.
Satele was “doing more harm than good,” according to coach Chuck Pagano. He chose to kick Mike McGlynn to center for the second half and brought in Trai Essex at right guard.
  • CIN Guard #65
Bengals rookie RG Clint Boling was benched after one series in Sunday’s loss to San Francisco.
The Bengals’ opening drive was actually one of their better ones of the day, with Cedric Benson breaking three runs of four yards or longer to the right side. Boling was replaced by Mike McGlynn. A fourth-round pick, Boling was starting his third straight game in place of suspended Bobbie Williams. He could be shifted back to his natural position of tackle once Williams returns in Week 5.
  • FA Guard #69
The Colts are working third-round pick Hugh Thornton at right guard in rookie minicamp and will “let him develop” there.
If Thornton sticks at right guard for the rest of the summer, he has a very strong chance of beating out veteran Mike McGlynn. McGlynn started 15 games last season, and graded out as Pro Football Focus’ worst-rated guard. McGlynn is best suited for a backup role. It sounds like Donald Thomas will play left guard.
  • FA Guard #77
Colts RG Mike McGlynn triggered an escalator in his contract, raising his 2013 salary from $1.25 million to $1.5 million.
McGlynn signed a two-year deal as a free agent last offseason, coming over from the Eagles with GM Ryan Grigson. He went on to start all 16 games at right guard, but he proved to be a major part of the Colts’ offensive line problem. McGlynn has the ability to play both guard and center, and is better suited for a backup role.
  • FA Guard #77
Impending free agent OG Mike McGlynn is not expected back with the Colts.
The Colts’ interior line was a trainwreck this season, and McGlynn was a big reason why. McGlynn looked overmatched playing out of his natural center position. Rotoworld has McGlynn ranked as the 16th best free agent center.
  • FA Guard #77
Colts RG Mike McGlynn sustained a fracture in his thumb during Sunday’s Week 10 loss to St. Louis.
Coach Chuck Pagano said McGlynn will get the digit casted up and then be listed as day to day. We’ve seen interior linemen play with clubs consistently, but the Colts are on a short week as they’ll face the Titans on Thursday night. Consider the struggling McGlynn questionable.
