Jesus Guzman was scratched from Monday’s lineup against the Rockies with a sore neck.
It’s probably safe to call him day-to-day right now. Kyle Blanks will make the start at first base Monday while Aaron Cunningham will play left field.
  • Aaron Cunningham has sat out the Indians’ past two intrasquad games due to a sore left hand.
The 25-year-old outfielder is expected to be back to full health and available for live action by the weekend. With Grady Sizemore out 8-12 weeks following back surgery, Cunningham could be in line for a decent amount of playing time over the 2012 season’s first few months.
  • FA Left Fielder #23
Michael Brantley left Monday’s game with a tight right hamstring.
Indians manager Manny Acta called his exit precautionary and he is currently listed as day-to-day. We suspect they’ll be extra careful here, as their current alternatives for center field include Felix Pie, Ryan Spilborghs and Aaron Cunningham.
  • INT Outfield #17
Shin-Soo Choo (hamstring) will be sidelined until at least Tuesday.
The Indians plan to have Choo when they open a three game series with the White Sox next week. As of now, he’s not a candidate for the disabled list. Aaron Cunningham will continue to play right field in his absence.
  • INT Outfield #17
Shin-Soo Choo (hamstring) is not in Saturday’s lineup against the Angels.
Choo has now missed four straight games. It’s unlikely he’ll need a stint on the disabled list, though, as the Indians are just taking precautionary measures. Aaron Cunningham is starting in right field and batting ninth.
  • INT Outfield #17
Shin-Soo Choo (hamstring) is not in Thursday’s matinee lineup against the Royals.
Choo didn’t play Wednesday either and is still dealing with soreness in his left hamstring. Aaron Cunningham is starting in right field Thursday vs. Kansas City.
  • INT Outfield #17
Shin-Soo Choo (hamstring) is not in Wednesday’s lineup against the Royals.
Choo is considered day-to-day after leaving Tuesday’s game with left hamstring soreness. Aaron Cunningham will make the start in right field Wednesday and bat ninth against right-hander Luke Hochevar.
  • CWS Third Base Coach
Jose Lopez has made the Indians’ Opening Day roster.
Lopez has batted .313/.353/.521 with a couple home runs this spring to cinch a spot. He’ll back up at the corner infield positions, as well as second base. Aaron Cunningham also made the club in a bench role.
  • INT Outfield #17
Shin-Soo Choo is not in the Indians’ lineup for the second game of Monday’s doubleheader against the White Sox.
Choo went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in the first game. Aaron Cunningham will start in his place for the nightcap and bat seventh against left-hander Eric Stults.
  • PHI Outfield
The Indians continue to view Russ Canzler as their potential Opening Day left fielder.
Canzler was acquired him from the Rays this offseason after being named the International League Player of the Year at Triple-A Durham. “We’re impressed by the way he swings the bat,” said manager Manny Acta. “He doesn’t panic at the plate. He has raw power, but he’s not a pull monster. He uses the whole field consistently.” Working against Canzler is the fact that both Shelley Duncan and Aaron Cunningham would be subject to the waivers process if not on the Opening Day roster.
