Mariners signed first-round pick SS Ace Reese.

Reese commands a healthy $3.5 million signing bonus from Seattle, which is just a shade less than the $3.8 million full-slot value for the 24th overall pick. The 21-year-old power-hitting shortstop is going to hit for plenty of pop at the highest level, but he’ll need to improve his approach and plate discipline if he’s going to be an impactful fantasy contributor. His long-term defensive home is also an open question at this stage of his development.

Mariners selected Mississippi State 3B Ace Reese the No. 24 selection of the 2026 MLB Draft.

Reese has enormous power from the left side, and he was able to hit 24 homers in 2026 in 62 games after bashing 21 homers as a sophomore. The 21-year-old will chase despite drawing a decent amount of walks — those free passes were mostly due to fear, which is not an insult, just a reality — and there’s significant swing-and-miss. There’s also concern about his position, but even if he moves across the diamond to first, that power can play.
