Rays signed supplemental first-round SS Adrian Santana.
Jim Callis of MLB.com reports that the 17-year-old Santana signed for a bonus of $2,002,950, which checks in under the estimated slot value ($2,670,600) for the 31st overall pick. The Rays can utilize some of the savings to sign their other picks. Santana, who was selected out of Doral Academy in Florida, is a switch-hitting shortstop with excellent speed and defensive ability.

Rays selected Doral Academy (FL) SS Adrian Santana with the 31st pick of the 2023 MLB Draft.
Santana is a phenomenal defender, and also possesses top-notch speed, which gives him a chance to make it to the big leagues down the road. The 17-year-old shortstop is a switch-hitter with gap-to-gap power at the moment, and figures to grow into some additional power over the next few years. He’s a long ways off from making any sort of fantasy impact, but he’s definitely going to stick at shortstop long-term.
