Rays acquired OF Alexander Ovalles, INF Oselvis Basabe, and C/OF Heriberto Hernandez from the Rangers for 1B Nate Lowe, 1B Jake Guenther, and a player to be named later.
Texas got Ovalles from the Cubs in August 2018 as the player to be named later in the Cole Hamels trade. The 20-year-old missed out on some important development time in 2020 as baseball navigated the COVID-19 pandemic with no minor league seasons, but he put up a promising .293/.354/.488 batting line with four homers and five steals in 49 games between the rookie-level Arizona League and Low-A Spokane in 2019.
