The 29-year-old right-hander was released by the Twins earlier in the week after posting a 6.21 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and a 33/24 K/BB ratio over 37 2/3 innings at Triple-A St. Paul. He’ll add minor pitching depth at the Triple-A level for the A’s.

It’s the first large batch of cuts for the Jays’ this spring, but there were no major surprises in the bunch. Macko, 23, made 20 starts at High-A Vancouver in 2023, posting a 4.81 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 106/40 K/BB ratio over 86 innings of work. Expect him to begin the 2024 campaign at Double-A New Hampshire.

Tiedemann — universally considered among the top pitching prospects in the game — should get a legitimate shot at cracking the Jays’ Opening Day rotation. Injuries limited him to just 44 innings over 15 minor league starts in 2023 before he concluded his season by taking home Pitcher of the Year honors in the Arizona Fall League. The 24-year-old hurler was a 30th round pick of the Angels in the 2019 draft. He logged just 16 innings for the Angels rookie league club in 2019 and didn’t pitch during the 2020 season. He resurfaced with the Missoula Paddleheads in the independent Pioneer League this season, posting a 1.80 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 27/5 K/BB ratio across 25 innings. It was enough to catch the Jays attention and earn him a minor league deal. He’ll add minor league pitching depth for the Jays.
