Andrew Heaney allowed four runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Padres on Sunday.
After a hot start to the season, Heaney has now allowed eight runs on 13 hits in his last 8 1/3 innings against the Padres and Cubs. Heaney was likely always just a streamer for fantasy purposes, even with his slight pitch mix changes. Things don’t get any easier next week against the Braves, and he can be dropped in most formats.

Andrew Heaney yielded four runs in 4 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Pirates.
Heaney, who gave up homers to Carson Kelly and Pete Crow-Armstrong, finished the night with no strikeouts and three walks. He’s been a pretty stunning success thus far in amassing a 2.50 ERA for the Pirates, but with his velocity down significantly, he’s definitely skating on thin ice. Mixed leaguers who grabbed him should move on ahead of his next start versus the Pirates.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #45
Andrew Heaney held the Angels to one hit over six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts in a win Wednesday.
Heaney took a no-no into the sixth, but it was broken up by Travis d’Arnaud with a double. He was able to keep d’Arnaud from going any further in yet another impressive outing for the 33-year-old southpaw. Heaney now has a glistening 1.72 ERA with a 31/6 K/BB, and while it’s not even kind of sustainable, there’s no denying he’s looked the part over the first three-plus weeks. His next outing is schedule for Tuesday against the Cubs.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #45
Andrew Heaney blanked the Nationals over 7 1/3 innings while picking up a win in a 1-0 victory for the Pirates on Thursday.
Heaney scattered five hits while issuing two walks, and he struck out four. Only one of the hits was for extra bases — a double by Nathaniel Lowe — and outside of that, he had the Washington lineup off balance in a very strong start for the 33-year-old veteran. With the scoreless outing, Heaney now has a 2.13 ERA, and he’ll try and replicate this success against the Angels next week. It’s worth a look for those taking a chance on a streamer in the early portion of 2025.

Andrew Heaney was charged with four runs over six innings on Saturday in a loss to the Reds.
Heaney looked sharp through two frames before giving up a double, hitting a pair of batters, and serving up a grand slam to Elly De La Cruz in the third inning. He finished with six strikeouts and only issued two walks. He’s posted a solid 3.00 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 18/4 K/BB ratio across 18 innings (three starts) to open the year. He’ll face the Nationals on Thursday in a home matchup.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #45
Andrew Heaney limited the Yankees to one run over seven innings and struck out 10 on Sunday.
Impressive work against a team averaging nine runs per game. It’s Heaney’s 21st career 10-strikeout game. He had one of those last year for Texas. It’s just the fourth time since 2022 that he’s gotten the chance to complete seven innings. We still wouldn’t go trusting Heaney in mixed leagues, but it is to his benefit that he’s pitching half of the time in the worst home run ballpark of his career. He’ll face the Reds in Cincinnati next time out.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #45
Andrew Heaney allowed one run on four hits in five innings in a no-decision against the Marlins.
The veteran struck out two and walked one on the day while posting just a 14 percent whiff rate and 24 percent CSW. He got ahead in the zone with his four-seam fastball early and was able to get weak contact on changeups and sliders out of the zone. It was an efficient performance but not an exciting one for fantasy purposes. Things will get much tougher next week against the Yankees, where Heaney is not a recommended start.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #23
Mitch Keller will start on Friday against the Marlins.
Keller, Bailey Falter and Andrew Heaney will close out the remainder of a four-game series against the Marlins after ace Paul Skenes takes the ball for his first-career Opening Day start. We’re assuming fifth starter Carmen Mlodzinski will make his season debut on Monday against the Rays, but that hasn’t been finalized.

Andrew Heaney yielded three runs in 4 1/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Rays.
Eloy Jiménez and Danny Jansen hit back-to-back homers off him in the second. Heaney fell to 0-3 with a 9.49 ERA, but given that he didn’t sign until late February, no one ought to care about that. He’ll open up in the Pittsburgh rotation.

Andrew Heaney struggled in a no-decision against the Tigers on Friday night, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits over his four frames.
On the plus side, the 33-year-old southpaw racked up four strikeouts on the evening and didn’t walk a batter. The bulk of the damage done against him came via the long ball, with Dillon Dingler swatting a solo homer in the second inning and Ryan Kriedler doing the same in the third. Heaney got eight whiffs on 56 pitches in the contest, half of them on his changeup, while posting a CSW of 30 percent. Heaney holds an uninspiring 11.25 ERA, 2.13 WHIP and a 5/5 K/BB ratio over eight innings in Grapefruit League action.
