Andy Dominique will stay in Boston only as long as Jason Varitek is suspended.
Varitek will hear today how many games he will miss for his part in Saturday’s melee with the Yankees. Once Vartiek’s suspension is over, the Red Sox will demote Dominique and recall hot-hitting Brian Daubach from Triple-A Pawtucket.
  • Red Sox designated catcher Andy Dominique for assignment.
The Red Sox chose to go with the defensive-minded Sandy Martinez over the offensive-minded Dominique and legitimate prospect Kelly Shoppach this month. Dominique would be a nice pickup for a team looking for a third catcher who can actually help out as a pinch-hitter. He might have slipped through waivers earlier this year, but with rosters expanded, there are several clubs that could use him.
  • Mets reassigned 1B Andy Dominque, 2B Danny Garcia and RHP Joe Nelson to minor league camp.
Dominque and Nelson both had cups of coffee with Boston last season. All three players are unlikely to make an impact with the Mets in 2005.
  • Blue Jays sent catcher Andy Dominique outright to Triple-A Syracuse.
Dominique went 0-for-2 as Ken Huckaby’s while Gregg Zaun was out.
  • Mariners signed catcher Andy Dominique to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Dominique likely would have been a useful bench player at his peak, but now that he’s 30, it’s unlikely that he’s going to get an opportunity. The Mariners won’t give him much of a chance to win a job as Kenji Johjima’s backup.
  • Non-roster catcher Andy Dominique will be shut down for a week or so in an effort to give his sprained right knee time to heal.
Dominique was injured during a workout Sunday.
  • Andy Dominique sustained a sprained right knee during a morning catching drill today and will be re-evaluated Monday morning by team physician Dr. Ed Khalfayan.
Dominique, a non-roster invitee, isn’t viewed as a candidate to win a spot on the Mariners.
  • Blue Jays purchased the contract of catcher Andy Dominique from Triple-A Syracuse.
An offensive-minded player, Dominique is more of a 25th man than a true backup catcher. The Jays are going to be hurting while Gregg Zaun is out.
  • Mets signed catcher-first baseman Andy Dominique to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Dominique made his major league debut with Boston last season, going 2-for-11. Even if Jason Phillips is traded, the 29-year-old will be a longshot to make the Mets as a third catcher/pinch-hitter.
