Misiewicz

Misiewicz was designated for assignment on Monday and cleared waivers, so he was outrighted off the Major League roster and sent to Triple-A where he will serve as organizational bullpen depth.

A 40-man spot was needed for Jon Berti, so Misiewicz is getting bumped. He had been pitching in Triple-A since June after throwing a scoreless inning in his lone appearance for the Yankees.

Misiewicz was with the Yankees for a couple days earlier this week as emergency relief depth, but he’ll head back to the minors with veteran southpaw Tim Hill joining New York’s relief mix.

Misiewicz augments New York’s relief depth entering Tuesday’s showdown against the Orioles and will be making his season debut when he gets into a game. The 29-year-old lefty made three relief appearances last year for the Yankees and also spent time with the Tigers and Diamondbacks as well.

Misiewicz will give the Yankees another lefty in the bullpen for their three-game set against a Baltimore team loaded with talented hitters who can hit from the left side. The southpaw has registered a 3.23 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over 30.2 innings and 23 appearances while with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Morris, who came over to the Yankees in the December deal that sent Estevan Florial to the Guardians, was blasted for a 10.80 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and a 7/5 K/BB ratio over 6 2/3 innings of work in his four Grapefruit League appearances. He’ll open the season as bullpen depth for the Yankees at Triple-A.

The 29-year-old lefty has spent four seasons in the majors, playing for five different teams during that stretch. In 2023, he appeared in 11 games for three different squads, pitching 11 innings with a 7.36 ERA. His 2023 campaign ended in mid-September after being struck in the head by a 100.6 mph line drive that resulted in a hospital appearance and a trip to the IL (concussion).

Misiewicz made eight appearances for the Diamondbacks, one of the Tigers and three for the Yankees in a forgettable season. The lefty has a 4.71 ERA in 130 lifetime appearances since debuting with the Mariners in 2020.

It’s not surprising to hear that Misiewicz is still battling the after-effects of being drilled in the head by a 100.6 mph line drive on Friday. It doesn’t look likely that he’ll be able to return to the Yankees’ bullpen before the 2023 season concludes.

Misiewicz was hospitalized on Friday night to undergo further evaluation and testing after being struck in the head by a 100.6 mph line drive during a relief appearance against the Pirates. The 28-year-old left-hander will likely miss the final two weeks of the regular season.
