Anthony Volpe (shoulder) went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.
It was Volpe’s first game at Triple-A after going 4-for-11 with two steals at Double-A. This home run was actually the first extra-base hit of his rehab stint so far. The 24-year-old struggled both offensively and defensively in 2025, but it’s entirely possible that his shoulder played a large role in that. Jose Caballero has not played so well in Volpe’s absence that the Yankees will want to keep Volpe out of the lineup initially. However, his career .222/.283/.379 MLB slash line does mean that fantasy managers shouldn’t feel the need to rush out and add him if he’s on waiver wires. He does have the potential to be a 20/20 threat, so there is some fantasy upside; he’s just not a must-roster player.

Anthony Volpe (shoulder) went 0-for-2 and played five innings at shortstop on Tuesday in a minor league rehab game for Double-A Somerset.
Volpe had the unfortunate task of facing Phillies rehabbing ace Zack Wheeler in his first game action since last year’s shoulder procedure. The 24-year-old shortstop will need a couple weeks to get back up to speed before making his season debut.

Anthony Volpe (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Double-A Somerset.
The Yankees have promising top prospect George Lombard Jr. still working his way towards the big leagues which means that Volpe will be their shortstop of the present once he’s ready for his season debut. The 24-year-old will need a couple weeks of at-bats to get back up to speed but could be ready to return to New York by the end of April or early May.

Anthony Volpe (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment next week.
Yankees’ general manager Brian Cashman told reporters on Friday that the plan is for Volpe to serve as the team’s starting shortstop upon his return. He missed the entirety of spring training, so he’s going to need at least a few weeks’ worth of at-bats in the minor leagues before he’s an option to help out at the Major League level. Barring any setbacks, he should be ready at some point in early May.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Anthony Volpe (shoulder) could potentially start a minor league rehab assignment next week.
Volpe has progressed to taking live at-bats in extended spring training at the Yankees facility in Florida. It’ll be a lengthy rehab assignment since he hasn’t played since last postseason before undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. The 24-year-old shortstop figures to be ready to make his season debut at some point in May. His fantasy stock has tumbled over the past two seasons, but he’s still young enough to turn things around.

Anthony Volpe (shoulder) is scheduled to take live batting practice this week.
It’s the first update on Volpe’s status from Yankees manager Aaron Boone since he hit the injured list at the conclusion of spring training. The 24-year-old shortstop continues working his way back from offseason shoulder surgery and figures to be ready to make his season debut at some point in late April or early May following a rehab assignment.

Yankees placed INF Anthony Volpe on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder surgery recovery.
Just a procedural move with the Yankees taking the field in the season’s opening day on Wednesday night. Volpe is still expected to return sometime in late April or early May.

Anthony Volpe (shoulder) will begin hitting off a Trajekt pitching machine this week and face live pitching next week.
Volpe is making his way back from surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. He began his hitting program about a month ago and has now progressed to facing velocity. From there, he will need to begin a rehab assignment in Triple-A, but it’s not out of the question for him to return to the Yankees at the end of April or early in May. That could move Jose Caballero to the bench.

José Caballero spent his offseason training “focused on increasing his bat speed.”
Caballero had been planning to play in the Dominican Winter League, but instead decided to “feel fresh” going into spring training and work on his swing at Driveline Baseball in Tampa. According to The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner, Caballero’s “goal is to improve his average bat speed to 71 mph this season, which would have been a shade under last year’s MLB average (71.7 mph).” In his first spring training action, the 29-year-old utility player hit a 405-foot home run. Caballero will get a chance to start at shortstop for the Yankees with Anthony Volpe (shoulder) out, so if he’s able to add some power to his elite speed, he could be a major steal where he’s going in fantasy drafts.

Anthony Volpe (shoulder) began his hitting program by taking dry swings on Monday.
It’s the first time that the 24-year-old shortstop has swung a bat since undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. The Yankees are already expecting to be without Volpe for all of April, so they’re going to let him take his time as he progresses through his recovery. Jose Caballero is expected to see the bulk of the action at shortstop while Volpe is shelved.
